Puerto Montt

July, 1998

Trip Rating: 5/5

Puerto Montt is located about halfway down Chile.   It is located at the bottom of the lake country.   I arrived at this little fishing village from Pucon, which is further north.  The bus ride was about 5 hours long, but very pleasant.   We passed through a town on the coast that had pine trees and rolling golden fields of grain.    This stuck in my mind because it reminded me of my days in California.   It was natural beauty that I was more acccustomed to, in stark contrast to coastal and altiplano Peru.    Puerto Montt though foggy, was full of color.   The fish that the fishermen where hauling out of the sea were huge.   The valcanos were huge too, although I didn't really get to see a full one because of the fog.
